Growing Helleborus orientalis from seed is wonderful, buy it may test your gardener’s patience as it can take a few years to establish and eventually begin to bloom. I have just had the wonderful experience of discovering the very first flower on a plant I grew from seed 4 years ago!
January in the garden may feel bleak and like nothing is growing.. but, take a good look. If you haven’t yet cleared the leaves from Autumn’s fall, you can do it now and when you do, you will discover all the growing underground has begun to break the surface of the soil.
Bulbs are coming up everywhere, some a little early as we are currently experiencing a very mild January (2019). Let’s hope we don’t have another ‘Beast from the East’ to cope with..
