Tulip 'Queen of Night'Christmas is just around the corner but there’s still time to get your Tulip bulbs into the ground. Planting bulbs is a great way to add beauty and colour to the spring border at little expense. And if you do receive a bag of bulbs for Christmas, how lovely to get out into the garden to plant them. Then soon enough you will be watching them break the ground in early spring.

Tulip ‘Queen of Night’ is a particularly dark claret colour, gorgeous planted with contrasting whites, pinks and blues. Tulips can be planted into containers in view from your kitchen or front door. Planted in swathes directly into the ground is a great look too.

A top tip for planting bulbs is to plant them onto a little nest of potting or horticultural grit. Grit really helps with drainage especially is you have a clay based soil.

It’s not too late to ask for a bag of bulbs for Christmas. A gift that will keep on giving each and every spring.

Happy gardening!
