I am not alone in celebrating my fiftieth, I have a twin brother who similarly feels surprised to have hit the half a century mark. I still feel I have lots to achieve and so the arrival of these significant numbers has given me a renewed determination to create beautiful gardens far and wide.
A visit to Stowe was inspirational and a challenge as its scale isn’t familiar to me – being more comfortable living and working in amongst considerably smaller suburban and rural gardens. A great and impressive landscape with its rolling lawns and huge trees – very different to the floral biased formal gardens of the Victorians.
Imposing buildings and monuments are planted throughout the landscape – where status and function interact between man made form and the nature all around.
A great Birthday outing in an age I care to remember..
