Rita’s Dingly Dell was installed and planted in May, which has been fantastic to watch grow and develop during the summer and autumn months. All the plants are putting on good growth and filling into their spaces. Summer gave us the show of the Buddleja davidii ‘Royal Red’ which was absolutely beautiful and has now (autumn) been cut back and moved to allow for its growth, which is plentiful!

The Callicarpa bodinieri var. Giraldii ‘Profusion’ (Beauty berry) were planted either side of the bench for autumn sparkle, because of their incredible purple bronze berries.. this plant is absolutely beautiful! Despite being less than a year old, they have managed to put on new growth and berries all in their first year in the garden. Next year the plants will grow up taller and flank the bench, which provides the beautiful feature planting for the Dingly Dell.

The seclusion is created by using evergreen shrubs and for Rita’s planting scheme I deployed Prunus lusitanica (Portugal laurel) and Choisya ternata (Mexican orange). Both are beautiful plants and are growing very well in their east-facing corner of the garden. By this time next year the garden bench will be surrounded by these plants and give that much sought after feeling of intimacy and planted privacy.

The woodland bark ground cover looks even more beautiful this time of year with the autumn leaves falling from the overhead ornamental cherry tree. The leaves give a dappled colour palette and all helps soften and give an enchanting feel.
